Guidance and Counseling

The Guidance and Counseling Office (GCO) is an integral part of the educational program which equips students with basic knowledge and skills to live and serve effectively in the global community. As a Christian international school, we provide career and Biblical guidance to prepare students as responsible citizens who are socially aware, morally upright and spiritually enriched. Through counseling, testing, assessment, career guidance and other learning support programs, we encourage self-discovery / discipline / development for personal well-being, the welfare of society and the worship (glory) of God. BCIS equips teachers and staff as guidance agents and counselors.

The Philosophy of the Guidance and Counseling Office is founded on the Christian Spirit of love and concern for human dignity and is anchored in the truth that each individual is loved, is important, is unique and is capable of growth and development. As such, the GCO promotes the following:

GUIDANCE COUNSELING OFFICE PROMOTES THAT:

• Every student is loved by his family, his peers, his significant others and in fact, unconditionally loved by God who freely offers salvation through Christ. This experience of unconditional love propels every Christian to love others as he loves himself.

• Every student is important and matters to the community. The BCIS community operates like a family or a body where each part has a vital role to play in the growth of individuals and the organization. The school rules and regulations are intended to instill positive discipline and protect people from disorders and irresponsibility.

• Every student is unique. Every student counts and is distinguished by his own identity, personality, potentials, talents, and giftedness. BCIS recognizes that individuals have varied talents (multiple intelligences) which develop and improve opportunities.

• Every student is capable of growth and development. As Rogerian psychology suggests that every individual is self-actualizing and therefore is developing in stature, we affirm further that his whole being (body, soul, and spirit) grows once he experiences the liberating rebirth in Christ.

When a student is always affirmed that he is loved, unique and capable of growth and development, he is certain to live his fullest in school, at home, and in the community. This truth eventually and inevitably results in good moral and right conduct. It is a beautiful inside – out personality development and growth coming from a new life in Christ who promised “to give life in all its fullness” (John 10:10b., NLT).
